Is NoCashMarket free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Posting items, browsing, swiping, matching and messaging are all free, and there are no listing fees, commissions or cuts taken from a trade. Because no money changes hands between members, there's nothing for us to take a percentage of. You only ever exchange the items or services you and the other person agreed on.

How do I know someone is trustworthy?

Open their profile before you agree to anything. You can see how long they've been active, what else they've listed, what they're looking for and their activity level on the site. Keep the conversation inside our messaging so there's a record, ask a specific question about the item, and if answers feel vague or rushed, walk away. Trust builds through completed swaps.

What can I trade on NoCashMarket?

Accepted Answer

Almost anything legal you own and no longer need: electronics, furniture, clothing, tools, sports gear, books, kids' items, garden and kitchen things. What matters is that you describe it honestly, including flaws. We don't allow weapons, alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, live animals, counterfeit goods, recalled items or anything you're not legally allowed to resell or transfer.

Can I trade services, not just items?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely, and services are often the best trades on the site. Tutoring, haircuts, photography, graphic design, bike or phone repair, moving help, cleaning, baking, music or fitness lessons all work. Agree on the scope up front — how many hours or sessions, where, and by when — so both sides know exactly what finished looks like before you start.

What if the trade isn't equal value?

Barter value is personal, not a price tag. A monitor gathering dust in your closet may be worth far more to someone working from home than it is to you. If a swap feels lopsided, say so and adjust: add a smaller item, include an hour of help, or ask them to sweeten their side. If it still doesn't feel right, politely decline and keep looking.

Where should we meet to swap?

Always somewhere public, busy and well lit — a coffee shop, a mall entrance, a library, a transit station or a supermarket parking lot in daylight. Bring a friend if the item is valuable or bulky. Inspect and test the item before you hand yours over. If a meeting spot feels off, suggest a different one; a genuine trader won't mind.

Is bartering legal in Canada?

Yes. Trading goods or services directly is perfectly legal in Canada, and people have done it long before marketplaces existed. The usual rules still apply: you must legally own what you trade, the item must be legal to transfer, and any regulated goods stay regulated. Business-related or licensed work carries the same obligations as if you'd been paid in cash.

Do I pay tax on a barter transaction?

Possibly — barter transactions can have tax implications in Canada, particularly when the trade relates to a business, self-employment or professional services rather than casual personal items. How is this different from Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji?

Those sites are built around a price, so every conversation becomes a negotiation over dollars, lowball offers and no-shows. Here there is no price field at all. You post what you have and what you want, and matching is based on that overlap — so conversations start with two people who already want each other's items rather than a haggle.

What if someone doesn't show up?

It happens. Message them once to reschedule, then move on — your listing stays live and other matches keep coming. Keep arrangements in our messaging so there's a record, confirm the day of the meetup before you travel, and avoid long trips for a first trade. Repeated no-shows can be reported to us so we can review the account.

Can I trade across cities?

You can. Most trades happen locally because handing an item over in person is simplest and safest, but nothing stops you from arranging a swap with someone in another city if you're both travelling or willing to ship. If you ship, agree on who pays, use tracking, and send at the same time so neither side is left waiting.

How do I delete my listing?

Accepted Answer

Go to your profile, find the listing and remove it — it disappears from browse, swipe and search right away, and no one can match with it after that. Do this once a trade is done so you stop getting messages about something that's gone. If you'd rather keep it for later, delete it and repost when you're ready to trade again.
