Trade and barter in Toronto

Toronto moves constantly. Leases turn over on the first of the month, condos in Liberty Village and CityPlace fill and empty, and every September the student wave hits U of T, Ryerson-area rentals and York. All that churn leaves perfectly good furniture, monitors, bikes and kitchen gear sitting in hallways — and someone three subway stops away needs exactly that.

Trading works especially well here because the TTC makes handoffs easy. A Line 1 or Line 2 station, a Kensington Market café, the Junction, Leslieville, North York Centre — pick somewhere busy and public, meet after work, and you're done in ten minutes without a car or a delivery fee.

Seasonally, Toronto has two big barter moments: spring, when balconies and storage lockers get cleared out, and late fall, when winter tires, skates, heaters and snow gear suddenly become the most wanted items on the board. Post early both times and you'll get more offers.
